Voopoo Argus Pod | Review

Good things come in small packages!

Intro

The Voopoo Argus Pod is the latest pod system in the Argus family.

Even though it bears the Argus name, it’s more of a modern redesign of the Voopoo V-Thru pod kit.

It comes with an inbuilt 800mAh battery, powered by the GENE.AI 1.2 chip. It has adjustable wattage with a range between 5-20W and smart wattage settings.

The Argus Pod comes with two 2ml capacity pods, with a 0.7Ω or 1.2Ω resistance coil integrated into the pod.

There is also adjustable airflow and USB Type C charging.

The Argus Pod is available in 6 color options: Black, Grey, Brown, Red, Sky Blue, and Carbon Fiber.

Design & Style

There’s no denying that the pod market category has become a little stagnant from a design front. It’s getting harder and harder to tell pod systems apart, and there’s very little originality even from the top brands.

I thought maybe it’s just a case where we’ve covered most possibilities until technological advances can propel the market forward again.

However, the Argus Pod has caught me completely off guard. From a design front is more than a glimmering ray of hope in an overly saturated category.

Voopoo Argus Pod

There’s not just one minor thing about the Argus Pod design that makes it unique. It’s actually a collection of minor design choices stitched together in an overall package that makes it truly different.

The first thing that catches the eye is the large viewable clear pods. Even though they only hold the typical 2ml of juice, it feels like you can see so much of your juice. I really like the fact they didn’t go with a really tinted plastic, like most other pod systems – it lets the juice stand out front and center.

The pods connect to the device seamlessly with magnets that almost fill like they suck the pod into place. They do have a very slight wobble to them when connected, but it’s not that noticeable. The pods also have a nice concealed fill plug with a large fill hole.

Voopoo Argus Pod

The Argus Pod device has a charcoal-colored zinc alloy frame, and it has a matte finish by still smooth to the touch. It’s paired with the leather panels on either side, making it extra comfortable to grip. I believe there is also a carbon fiber version available. However, I’m really impressed with the look and feel of the tanned brown version we have for review.

Ther is branding on the leather panels of ‘Argus’ on one side and ‘Voopoo’ on the other, but it’s imprinted and not obtrusive.

On what I will refer to as the backside of the Argus pod, you will also notice an airflow adjustment switch. It’s very small and barely noticeable. I thought at first it would be too small and fiddly to adjust and probably wouldn’t make a difference to the actual airflow, but I was very wrong, as you’ll find out later.

Voopoo Argus Pod

It’s worth mentioning that the Argus Pod is a very small device. It can easily be concealed in the palm of your hand and would be barely noticeable in your pocket. It measures 93.4mm tall (with a pod), 26mm wide, 13.6mm deep, and only weighs 53.5g.

The Argus Pod also houses an internal 800mAh capacity battery. So it’s even more of a surprise that along one side of the Argus Pod, you also have a 0.69″ OLED screen and a small control/navigation button. Not only is the screen incorporated into the design extremely well, but it’s also one of the most useful screens on a tiny pod device that I’ve come across.

Voopoo Argus Pod

The first thing you encounter on the screen is the ‘recording’ screen which is the puff counter and battery status. If you press the button once, you then get to see your wattage, coil resistance, and battery status. However, it doesn’t stop there because you can also adjust the wattage using the button. The screen changes again when the device is charging to show the remaining charge time.

Rounding off the device’s design, there is a USB Type-C port on the base. It’s surrounded by rubber padding, which is something that Voopoo has started regularly doing on devices, which is great.

Voopoo Argus Pod USB

I feel like that’s a lot that Voopoo has handled well in fitting into such a compact device. It doesn’t require a designated fire button as it works through an auto draw.

The Voopoo Argus pod is a very slick and modern-looking kit. It has, in my opinion, exceptional build quality for such a small pod system. Read on to find out if it performs just as well as it looks.

Features

The Voopoo Argus pod comes with an inbuilt 800mAh battery and is powered by Voopoo’s GENE.AI 1.2 chip.

As previously mentioned, you’d be surprised to learn the Argus Pod has adjustable wattage with a range between 5-20W. It also has a smart wattage setting, which detects the resistance of the pod attached and sets the wattage accordingly.

The 0.69″ OLED screen displays Puff Count, Vape Time, Battery Status (%), Wattage, Resistance, and Volts. It is all split across two screens, which you can flick between by pressing the control button.

The Argus Pro comes with all the standard safety protections and has a USB Type C port for charging. Voopoo does not state the charge rate, but I believe it’s 1A as it takes about 60 minutes to recharge completely.

Voopoo Argus Pod Screen

The screen will also display the remaining charge time when the device is charging, but there is no passthrough vaping.

Operating the Argus Pod through its one control button is very easy:

  • 5 clicks = on/off
  • 1 click = changes between ‘recording’ screen (puff count), and informational screen (wattage/resistance)
  • 1 long press (on information screen) = enters wattage adjustment mode (watts on the screen will start flashing). Keep pressing the button to increase the wattage in 1W increments (it does round-robin).
  • 5 clicks (when the device is on) = menu mode,
  • Menu mode settings = lock device, clear puff count, and power off.

The lock device setting on the Argus is a child safety lock. It will lock the device from firing when it’s been inactive for 3 minutes. You will have to press the button 3 times to re-activate it.

Pods

The Argus Pod comes with two pods in the kit that have integrated coils and a 2ml juice capacity.

There is a 1.2Ω resistance pod and a 0.7Ω resistance pod. Both have exactly the same styling, and the resistance is clearly marked on the rubber fill port of the pod.

The rubber plug for the fill port is easy to open and reveals a very large fill port. I’ve had no issues when filling the pods; it doesn’t create air bubbles and is easy to see when full.

Voopoo Argus Pod

The mouthpiece of the pods is curved but quite slender, so it is fairly comfortable to use, even for MTL vaping.

Voopoo has designed the pods with multi-layers around the coil and 4 small airholes. This helps create a very smooth draw and prevents the pods from leaking. I’m pleased to say I didn’t see any leaking while using them.

Performance

So we’ve already established that the Argus Pod is a sexy-looking little pod system and is a surprisingly feature pack. But how does it perform?

In one word – fantastic.

Both pods deliver excellent flavor right up there when it comes to pod systems. They both also have very smooth airflow.

Voopoo Argus Pod Airflow

I don’t feel like there is much difference between the two pods. I expected the 0.7Ω to give a little more oomph or more flavor. I think the 1.2Ω is actually the better pod to use, the flavor is on par, and if you want a little more hit, you can up the wattage to about 12W.

It’s great having adjustable wattage, but to be honest, I enjoyed both pods on the smart wattage setting.

The 1.2Ω coil lasted me practically the full day of vaping. However, the 0.7Ω was draining the battery a lot faster and barely making it past 3 hours of fairly constant vaping. Another reason why it’s best to stick with the 1.2Ω.

Voopoo Argus Pod

The adjustable airflow on the Argus does the job it’s set out to do, but it’s not the most granular of airflow adjustments. You can go from a restricted DTL (best with the 0.7Ω) to a tight MTL.

However, it’s achieved by either having the airflow completely open for DTL or halfway is a loose MTL. If you can get it just slightly open, you have a tight MTL – that should satisfy most tight MTL lovers.

Overall the Argus Pod has excellent build quality, styling, and features for a pod system and delivers on performance. What more do you want?

Verdict

The Argus Pod has really impressed me, and I think it will easily find its way to the top of our best pod vapes.

Voopoo has barely put a foot wrong with the styling, features, and performance of the Argus Pod.

It’s compact, lightweight, has adjustable wattage and airflow, and delivers brilliant flavor from both coils.

It might be a bit too small for some, and the battery power is lacking with the resistance coil. But with the performance that it delivers with the 1.2Ω coil, most will love this little pod system. I know I do, and now I’m off to order more 1.2Ω pods!
