RDTA’s are becoming a rare breed, mainly due to squonking and bottom fill RDAs. An even more uncommon sight is an RDTA with bottom fill, and especially one this small.

The Galaxies RDTA is 22mm in diameter and only 29mm in height, I’ve seen RDAs that are taller than this. Its compact design is furthered by using the shorter of the two included 510 drip tips.

However, it’s not all about compact looks with the Galaxies. There’s been a lot of thought gone into each aspect of the design to give you an incredibly versatile atomizer.

The Galaxies RDTA has a plethora of airflow options, which you can adjust not just from the twisting the top cap, but also adjusting two screws on the build deck. It can go from super tight MTL to restricted lung hit.

Then there’s the 2ml capacity tank section, which can be filled via a squonk (using the BF pin), or through the spring-loaded port on the deck – genius.

However, it doesn’t stop there. We also have a conical top cap to help intensify the flavor, and heat-sink fins to prevent the mouthpiece from getting too hot.

It comes with two 510 tips with different heights and internal diameters. It’s got a small 2 mL tank section, a conical top cap, heat-sink fins, and various adjustable airflow options ranging from a super tight MTL to a restricted lung hit.

While Vapefly may not be the first to use these features in an atomizer, they are certainly the first to include all of them in one single-coil RDTA.

I always think RDTAs look a bit bulbous and ugly. The Galaxies while not exactly being a stunner does carry off a simple and elegant look with a hint of styling coming from the engraved galaxy pattern along the top cap.

Build Quality

Although Vapefly targets their atomizers to be incredibly affordable, they don’t cut corners with the quality.

The build quality on the Galaxies MTL RDTA is very good. There are no issues whatsoever with the tolerances on the o-rings, and all the screws in the deck have smooth threading.

The top cap is made from very thin metal, while it may not give it a solid premium feel; it doesn’t feel cheap and helps the tank remain lightweight.

Build Deck9.0
Vapefly Galaxies MTL Squonk RDTA

Vapefly has done an excellent job with the build deck on the Galaxies MTL RDTA.

Especially when you think about what they’ve managed to fit into such a small space, yet it still feels and more importantly is incredibly simple to use.

It features two gold plated posts, and each post has a side slot for your coil legs. It also has gold plated Allen screws which are tightened down from the top to trap your wire.

Then on the center of the outside of each post, you will notice another two Allen screws. These are the internal airflow valves, which you simply loosen to allow more air through from the side and creates a looser draw (more on this later).

The base also has a small groove for you to place your coiling rod so that you can position your coil correctly for the airflow holes. Then as with all RDTAs, there are two small wicking holes in the base of the deck to tuck your wicks through so they dangle into the tank section below.

One thing you won’t see on all build decks is the spring-loaded fill port tucked to one side.

The tank or reservoir section of the RDTA is relatively simple and is connected by a post with a small squonk hole in it towards the top. This post connects to the 510 or BF pin so can allow juice to flow into the tank on each squonk.

The wicking holes on the Galaxies deck are 3mm in diameter. So it’s important to make sure your wicks are not too narrow, or too wide for that matter. If there’s not enough wick then the juice will be able to come through, and too much and it won’t wick, and you’ll be prone to dry hits.

However, I’m glad to say even from the first attempt I had no issues with judging the right amount of wicking even with a 2.5mm ID coil. I cut the wicks inline with the outside of the tank, I combed them ever so slightly and then gently pushed them through the holes.

It’s also worth noting that because it’s such a small tank, just from the natural action of tilting the tank towards your mouth, it will keep the wicks wet. You don’t have to consciously keep tipping it to wet the wicks.

If you are using the Galaxies RDTA in Squonk mode then, of course, it’s easy to refill by just giving you bottle a squonk.

However, if you want to top up the tank without squonking or are using it without the BF pin, then Vapefly have included a neat little fill port.

The spring-loaded fill port sits proudly in the deck and just a simple push down with your bottle, and it will push down into the tank and open the valve.

It’s such a simple, effective and mess-free fill method. I’ve never used it before, and it’s just joyous to use, and I’m sure we are going to it incorporated into more devices, especially pods mods.

If there’s one thing the Galaxies series highlight, it’s that Vapefly understands airflow when it comes to MTL vaping.

Vapers can be picky when it comes to MTL airflow, some like a looser draw and others like me prefer a super tight MTL draw.

The Galaxies gives you so many options for each. The deck has both bottom and side airflow configurations. The side airflow comes from loosening the Allen screws on each post, the more you loosen them, the more air comes through to the coil allowing for a looser MTL or restricted lung hit.

The top cap for the Galaxies has nine airflow holes in total, three on one side and six on the other. This gives you the ability to use it with airflow coming in from both sides, or just the one side. The airholes range in size from 0.8mm, 1.4mm to 2mm, so as you can see that is a whole plethora of configurations you can do.

In fact, there are almost too many options that it took me a while to find my favorite setup. Which in the end was the 0.8mm hole open on both sides with just bottom airflow going to the coil.

The mouth-to-lung performance from the Galaxies RDTA is excellent.

It has an exceptionally smooth and quiet draw but still delivers that perfect punchy throat hit. It’s also very good for flavor production, I would say definitely above average for MTL and better than the Galaxies RDA.

Like I mentioned up top, I’m not a massive fan of RDTAs, and it seemed like they were a dying breed. Well, the Galaxies has just changed my mind entirely and brought RDTAs back to life.

I’ve been using the Galaxies RDTA primarily on my squonk mods, and although it’s slightly taller than most of my RDAs having that extra 2ml capacity it an excellent trade-off. It’s also so easy to see your juice level, and not have to worry about oversquonking.

Before I head out, I always top up my squonk bottle, then use the fill port to fill up the tank, just because I can, and it feels good.

  • Good build quality
  • Great flavor for MTL
  • Easy to use build deck
  • Smooth & silent draw
  • Two convenient refill options
  • No wicking issues
  • Two 510 drip tip options

  • Not the greatest looking atomizer
Vapefly Galaxies MTL Squonk RDTA

Vapefly has done an excellent job with the Galaxies RDTA; it delivers on versatility, flavor, and airflow.

If you are an MTL vaper and have struggled to find an atomizer that can deliver the right MTL draw for you – the Galaxies MTL RDTA might just be a perfect choice.

I genuinely don’t believe there’s another atomizer on the market with such adjustable airflow. Even with something like the Berserker MTL RDA, you need to use inserts and can’t get side airflow to the coil.

The Vapefly Galaxies MTL RDTA is an incredibly versatile tank, which I highly recommend to any MTL vaper. Even if like me you are skeptical about RDTAs – I think the Galaxies might just change your mind.
